Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide (CO2). Whereas regular ice can exist at a temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, dry ice is usually around -109 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of this extremely cold temperature, it can be tremendously dangerous if it is not handled properly. This article will give you a few pointers so that your dry ice experience goes smoothly.
1. Avoid contact with eyes and skin

2. Always wear gloves

3. Get the size you need

4. Keep away from children
This should be obvious but it is worth mentioning. Children are curious creatures, and they will definitely be curious about a block of dry ice. This will almost always mean that they will touch it, which can lead to disastrous consequences.
5. Don't transport it in your vehicle's cab
You should always transport this material in your trunk. Even more ideal would be a truck bed or trailer. Even if it is in your trunk, you should keep the windows rolled down. When dry ice evaporates, it releases CO2 into the air. If you are kept in an area that is not well-ventilated, you could suffocate from lack of oxygen.
6. Keep away from cans
If you put cans of food or aerosol cans in direct contact with frozen CO2, they will probably explode.
7. Use Wood
Don't place a piece of ice on tile, glass, metal, or laminated countertops. This will cause the material to freeze and possibly shatter. Ever noticed how a piece of metal or glass will be cooler to the touch in cold weather than a piece of wood? This is because wood is a poor conductor of heat, which makes it perfect for handling dry ice.
